PMI - TA reflection week 1
P
- Lessons are planned such that students really do engage with their prior knowledge and this recapping session was used to engage and excite students for the main activity/topic that week. (Shapes à matisse à collage)
- Scaffolding of lesson content such that students can follow easily.
- intentional recapping of artists and artworks gone through in previous lessons.
- Use of positive reinforcement to guide students towards desired behaviors – helps reinforce a positive classroom culture as well!
- Interesting and relevant videos planned and inserted to recap / tie in prior knowledge to current activity.
- knowing students well allow for more effective differentiation!
- use of IPAD to conduct SLS lessons, allow students to explore for related content (ART) on the internet and use those to formulate their responses.
- planning for closure
- important to consolidate learning, can be used as a formative assessment to see if students did learn after the lesson.
- Was done for the SLS/ipad lesson with the P4s and it gives across the message that students can learn while having fun navigating the internet on the ipad as well!
- planned questions to guide students along the way, being clear of the end-point we want to lead students to.
M
- I realized that we had to be sensitive to the seating arrangement of students and plan for their discussions such that all students will be engaged during discussions.
- During gallery walk, I thought it might have been more effective if the teacher allowed the students to share about their own artwork/ answer questions posed by their classmates, rather than allowing classmates to give comments on these artworks, especially since self-portraits can be personal for some.
- more planning on the part of the teacher to engage students in fruitful discussions on others' artworks.
- teacher could model positive interactions such that the positive classroom culture is maintained.
I
- Activation of prior knowledge need not be done only at the beginning, it can also be done when we give students a prelude of the activity they’ll be engaging in in the future weeks! (linking to texture printing)
- In getting students to bring recycled materials from home for texture printing next week, my CT spent some time to ensure that the P1 students brought RECYCLED materials – things they didn’t want to use anymore, and to have them seek their parent’s consent
- cue to get students attention mid-work, where teacher calls the class name and class responds with "yes, teacher", keep the positive classroom culture in place, as compared to screaming/shouting for their attention.
