T4W1

This week marked the start of the last school term this year! In preparation for the hand over of my classes to Mawar, I spent this week tying up the loose ends of Term 3 with my P1 and P2 classes. Reflections were completed and filing was done.

I realized that the giving and receiving of instructions were key for the procedure to be done as smoothly as possible. It can be chaotic, as students audibly struggle to file in their artworks and repeatedly ask questions to which answers were already provided. The good thing about taking multiple classes at one level was that I got reinforcements as to which methods flowed better and which needed improving. With the P1s, instructions were best to be simple, straightforward and purposeful. Getting the P1 students to check the file for the presence of a contents page upon receiving their files was unwise as students processed that instruction as me asking them to take out their contents page. I had only wanted them to look for it and approach me for a new contents page if they were missing one. However, I didn't clarify that if they had one, they need not take it out. For the rest of the P1 classes, I moved the checking and updating of the contents page till after they had filed in all their artworks, so it would be less messy.

I also spent this week doing up the art displays for the P1 & P2s at the Chroma Zone, in preparation for the school's 25th Anniversary Celebration! I was initially daunted by the task as the boards were huge and I was worried that my students' artworks, as well as the decorations done up by me would not be up to mark. Thankfully, Angie was there to give me honest feedback and comments that helped me tremendously! It was a new experience, and it warmed my heart when I witnessed other students' genuine amazement and awe at the P1s' paper sculptures. Watching my lower primary students break out into a huge grin, beaming with pride upon seeing their artworks on display reminded me that small recognitions like these can be significant to them.
